Luar Launches First Swimwear Collection with The Standard Ibiza

other · 2026-09-28

Luar has introduced its first-ever swimwear line, including a limited-edition collaboration with The Standard, unveiled at The Standard, Ibiza. The collection features a sunshine-yellow swim brief with the brand's metal monogram at the hip, and a month-long boutique takeover at the hotel brings Luar's poolside aesthetic to the property. Founder Raul Lopez hosted an intimate rooftop dinner to celebrate. The launch follows Luar's spring 2027 show, staged beneath the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York, which blended Tudor-era dress, queer New York references, Dominican history, and themes of colonization and reclamation. Lopez describes the swimwear as an extension of his design philosophy: 'Just because you're wearing less doesn't mean you should have less point of view.' He sees parallels between beach and nightlife as spaces where people dress to be seen, and views swimwear as a powerful statement of self-presentation. The garments, some resembling classic Speedos, incorporate a metal L detail that Lopez says 'changes everything.' The collection aims for recognizability without predictability, with Lopez seeking a 'what the fuck is that?' moment even in simple pieces. Ibiza's atmosphere of freedom and performance provides a fitting backdrop, aligning with Lopez's ideal summer of sun, music, good food, and no schedule. The collaboration debuted during Milan Fashion Week and continues through the closing parties in Ibiza.
