Louvre Abu Dhabi Explores Indian Ocean Trade Routes in "Épices et merveilles"
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will host "Épices et merveilles : voyages dans l'océan Indien" from 14 October 2026 to 14 February 2027. This exhibition features over 240 pieces that illustrate the influence of a significant trade route on cultures in Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe. Curated by Dr Guilhem André and Dr Claire Déléry, highlights include a manuscript by 15th-century navigator Ibn Majid, six ship models, and an olfactory installation by Givaudan. Artifacts are sourced from 24 institutions, such as the Al-Sabah Collection and the Musée Guimet. The event will also include a children's trail, a concert by the UAE National Orchestra, and a trilingual catalogue, with a second edition set to travel to the Musée Guimet from 12 May to 6 September 2027.
