Louise Vo Tan conjures ghosts of stolen Louvre jewels at Belle-Île-en-Mer

Artist Louise Vo Tan (born 1996) has created 'Keep It Close', an installation at La Sirène in Bangor, Belle-Île-en-Mer, France, that projects holographic reflections of the French Crown Jewels stolen from the Louvre on October 19. Vo Tan had filmed the jewels alone in the Galerie d'Apollon during a closed visit just weeks before the theft, initially feeling the heist made her project impossible. She later connected the stolen treasure to a legendary lost treasure from the 1746 shipwreck of the Prince-de-Conty off Morbihan. The work is viewable only from 7 PM to 10:30 PM at sunset, through a spyglass onto a plexiglass plate, with no signage except a QR code. Rumors already circulate that the jewels are hidden in La Sirène. The exhibition runs from July 4 to August 23, 2026, with an inauguration on July 12. Vo Tan, a graduate of Beaux-Arts de Paris and philosophy at Sorbonne, previously created the film project 'Soft Power' at the Banc national d'épreuve de Saint-Étienne and will soon be in residence at the Banque de France, where the stolen jewels are secured.
