Louisa Gagliardi's First French Monograph Opens at Centre d'art de Mougins

exhibition · 2026-10-08

The FAMM, described as the world's first museum outside the United States devoted to major women artists, presents its second winter exhibition at the Centre d'art de Mougins: the first monograph in France of Swiss artist Louisa Gagliardi, curated by Simon de Pury. The exhibition, titled In Plain Sight, runs from 6 November 2026 to 4 April 2027 at 1 place du Commandant Lamy, 06250 Mougins, in the Alpes-Maritimes. Gagliardi, who trained as a graphic designer and is based in Zurich, arrived at painting through the screen, and her figures retain the sharp finish of synthetic images. Through painted and three-dimensional works, she explores the boundary between the digital world and physical reality. Her compositions are first developed digitally, then printed on PVC and reworked by hand; on the print she applies varnish, transparent gel and nail polish until the smooth printed surface acquires the thickness of a painting. These images stage characters who, though ultra-connected, appear profoundly alone. They rarely look each other in the face, observing one another through windows, reflections or screens. Viewers enter these scenes as observers, almost as voyeurs. In Plain Sight, conceived by Simon de Pury for the FAMM, thus explores the paradox between hyperconnection, solitude and what hides in plain sight.
