Lou Melchior's Decade of Photography Surveyed in "The Van, the Sock and the Shadows" at Gallery46

exhibition · 2026-09-30

From October 9th to 21st, 2026, Gallery46 in London will host "The Van, the Sock and the Shadows," a solo exhibition by Lou Melchior, as part of PhotoMonth 2026. This showcase highlights a decade of Melchior's photographic work, viewing her practice as a continuous exploration rather than distinct series. Themes of interruption, overlooked details, and fragments are prevalent, with images that fluctuate between clarity and ambiguity. Alongside photography, Melchior employs drawing and collage, transforming documentary observation into absurdity and imbuing incidental details with deeper meaning. Featured works include "Thirteen thirty-seven" (2024), "Fifteen twenty-five" (2017), "Fourteen twenty-two" (2026), "Seventeen fifty-two" (2017), and the collage "Motif No. 2." Melchior, born in Copenhagen in 1973, holds degrees from Chelsea College of Art, Parsons, and Goldsmiths. Recent exhibitions include "Annual Open 2025" at Southwark Park Galleries and "Duly Noted" at Projects Kavel Rafferty. Follow her on Instagram @lou_melchior.
