LOISAIDA Walls Brings More Than a Dozen Murals to Avenue A in Manhattan
More than twelve murals now line Avenue A between 5th and 6th Streets as part of LOISAIDA Walls, a community project organized by ArtBridge with sponsorship from Con Edison. Werds painted the piece featured at the top of the series. Photographs of the works were captured last week by Lois Stavsky and Sara C Mozeson, who split the credits across the fourteen images. Cram Concepts contributed an intricate wall, while Al Diaz posed beside his own mural. Will Power, described as passionate, is also among the participants. Toofly, an Ecuador-born artist raised in Queens, painted one mural and collaborated with Epic Uno on another. Marissa Molina, noted for community-engaged work, took part, as did Bronx-born Andre Trenier, who appears next to a segment of his piece. Hektad, a veteran Bronx graffiti writer now working as a contemporary muralist, is included. Chino BYI, an Old School writer and graffiti historian, was photographed at work. Fernando SKI Romero, a Queens-bred writer and muralist, also contributed. Indie 184, a writer and designer, rounds out the roster alongside Jappy Agoncillo, who was born in Manila and is based in Queens, and Cekis, a Chilean-born artist. The lineup spans generations of New York graffiti and street art practice, from historians of the form to contemporary muralists.
