Loader Monteith Turns 69-Square-Metre Prestwich Bungalow Into Four-Bedroom Home
Loader Monteith, a Scottish architecture firm, has reimagined a two-bedroom red-brick bungalow in Prestwich, UK, expanding it into a four-bedroom family residence. The 69-square-metre home was redesigned to better integrate with the rear garden. A brick extension at the back enhances the living spaces' connection to the outdoors, and a new upper level is tucked beneath a dormer roof. Co-founder Matt Loader highlighted the importance of optimizing space while pursuing architectural excellence. Clients Matt and Angie Maurer played an active role in the construction, favoring contractors who aligned with their vision. The entrance features green-toned copper, contrasting with the red-brick exterior, while the angular rear extension boasts copper accents and a sedum roof. Inside, there are two bedrooms facing the street, a study, and open kitchen, living, and dining areas, with a skylit staircase leading to the upper floor, which includes two additional bedrooms and a bathroom.
