Live-Action 'Moana' Hits Digital Streaming After Underwhelming Box Office Run

Starting Tuesday, September 8, Disney's live-action adaptation of 'Moana', featuring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Lagaʻaia, will be available for digital purchase on PVOD platforms. The film debuted in theaters on July 10, generating $43 million during its opening weekend. By September 3, it had amassed $126.1 million in the domestic market and $189.3 million internationally, resulting in a global total of $315.4 million against a production budget of $250 million. This is in stark contrast to the animated original from 2016, which earned $684.3 million on a $150 million budget. CEO Josh D'Amaro recognized the film's lackluster performance but emphasized its significance beyond just box office numbers. The live-action 'Moana' will be priced at $29.99 for purchase and $24.99 for rental, with a physical release scheduled for October 6.
