Lines, Loops, Leaks: Treviso Exhibition Explores Borders Through Contemporary Art

Curated by Mattia Solari, 'Lines, Loops, Leaks. Riflessioni contemporanee sul confine' at Fondazione Imago Mundi's Gallerie delle Prigioni in Treviso runs until August 2, 2026. The exhibition rethinks borders as dynamic, relational spaces, drawing on border studies and anthropology with visual maps by Chiara Brambilla. It features works by 16 international artists plus 36 pieces from the Imago Mundi Collection. Highlights include Shilpa Gupta's 'MapTracing #9 - IT', where Italy's silhouette shifts with viewer movement; Paulo Nazareth's 'Ode to the sovereignty of Africa' (first Italian presentation); and Filippo Berta's 'One by One', a video documenting a performance counting barbed wire along borders of 12 countries. Other artists include Mario Ceroli, Nicolas Brunetti, Armin Linke, Reena Saini Kallat, Eva Marisaldi, Ryts Monet, Antoni Muntadas, and others from 15 national collections. The show avoids didacticism by treating borders as method, not theme, and includes works addressing Brexit, mobility denial, and colonial memory.
