line+ studio transforms abandoned school into elderly care home on Zhoushan island
line+ studio has completed the Chaishan Island Elderly Care Home in Baisha Township, Putuo District, Zhoushan, China. The project repurposes an abandoned elementary school into a facility integrating public social and medical care services for 96 left-behind elderly residents. Designed by chief architect Meng Fanhao and project architect He Yaliang, the 799 m² building uses a reinforced concrete frame structure. The design period ran from June to September 2023, with construction from September 2023 to May 2024. This is line+'s first public welfare project, addressing rural elderly care challenges amid an aging population. The client is the Baisha Island Management Committee, Zhoushan Putuo District.
