line+ studio embeds Red Valley Dwellings in Yunnan's red-earth valley
The Red Valley Dwellings, designed by the Chinese firm line+ studio, has been completed in Mile, Yunnan, in a charming red-earth valley surrounded by eucalyptus trees. Originally meant for artist studios, it has been reimagined as the Muxin Valley Spa Center, inspired by the traditional Hani mushroom houses with steep roofs and sturdy masonry walls, featuring courtyards and well-placed openings. Spanning 939.76 sqm, the complex, located at the western edge of Dongfengyun Innovation Park, consists of various interconnected volumes that blend with the landscape. The design includes dark grey slate tiles, red-toned walls, local red volcanic stone for retaining walls, and black metal details. Architect Fanhao Meng led the project alongside a talented team, with additional support from Yunnan Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. for construction drawings.
