Lin Cheng's Multidisciplinary Practice Explores Female Experience Through Installation, Animation, and Printmaking

Lin Cheng, a Glasgow-based artist originally from China and born in 1993, delves into themes of human experience and female empowerment through her practices in illustration, printmaking, and installation. Her ongoing project, Silent Absence (2022–2024), has transitioned from etchings depicting children impacted by domestic violence into a seven-minute video divided into two segments—one narrated from a woman's viewpoint and the other from a child's perspective—featuring personal soundscapes and intimate visuals. Additionally, Cheng's outdoor installation, Women in a Case (2018–2024), showcases a headless female figure crafted from blue tarpaulin, addressing issues of agency and objectification. Other notable works include Where the Wind Judges (2020) and Relation (2022). A graduate of the University of the Arts London, she has exhibitions planned for 2026, and her work is part of the Brookline Arts Center collection.
