Lily Vogt's 'Tree of Life' Captures Love in Public and Private

Lily Vogt, a Seattle-born, Amsterdam-based photographer and model, presents 'Tree of Life,' a series merging portraits of anonymous couples kissing at an Amsterdam queer club night with intimate images tracing her own burgeoning relationship. The project began as two separate strands until a tutor suggested combining them. Vogt's kissing pictures originated at a wedding, where she photographed diverse couples, later moving to a photo booth in an Amsterdam club bathroom. She draws inspiration from Nan Goldin, aiming to create emotionally resonant work that invites rather than alienates. Each image is accompanied by handwritten, diaristic captions. Vogt believes in art that makes people feel alive, especially in challenging times.
