Lilette and Gilbert Valentin Retrospective at Espace Lympia
The Espace Culturel Départemental Lympia in Nice is hosting a retrospective of Lilette (1925-2006) and Gilbert Valentin (1928-2000), potters, ceramists, and sculptors central to the post-war artistic scene in the French Riviera. Their Vallauris studio, Les Archanges, counted Jean Cocteau as honorary president. Picasso, who lived opposite, would observe them through binoculars before visiting. Gilbert was an alchemist of glazes, creating colors from oxides and Biot sand—flamboyant yellow, incandescent orange, granitic black. The exhibition runs until October 18, 2026.
