Lewis Major's Triptych Returns to Australia After 12-Country Tour

Lewis Major, an Australian choreographer and former sheep farmer from regional South Australia, will showcase his triple bill, Triptych, at the Sydney Opera House from September 16 to 19, followed by its Victorian debut at Arts Centre Melbourne from September 22 to 26. Created by Lewis Major Projects, this work has toured 12 countries and been performed over 100 times, garnering more than a dozen accolades, including the Spirit of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 and Best Dance at the Adelaide Fringe in 2025. Major's journey into contemporary dance began at 16 with the Australian Dance Theatre's tour to Mount Gambier, followed by training in Adelaide and at the New Zealand School of Dance. He then secured his first professional role in Vienna and spent ten years in Europe collaborating with renowned choreographers. In 2015, he established Lewis Major Projects, which operates with five core dancers. In 2020, he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to explore entrepreneurialism in the Australian arts, traveling to the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and is currently authoring a book on sustainable arts businesses. Major aims to transform his company and lead a larger arts organization, with Triptych designed to attract audiences new to contemporary dance while upholding artistic excellence.
