Letha Wilson: Hybrid Photography Meets Industrial Materials

American artist Letha Wilson (b. 1976) creates hybrid works merging photography, sculpture, and installation. She challenges the two-dimensional nature of photography by combining large-scale landscape images—shot during travels to Hawaii, the American West, and Iceland—with industrial materials such as concrete, steel, and aluminum. Born in Honolulu and raised in Colorado, Wilson earned a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University and an MFA from Hunter College in New York, and also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She lives and works between New York State and Brooklyn. Her works have been exhibited internationally at venues including the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), the International Center of Photography in New York, MACRO in Rome, the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, and the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.
