Lenny Gerard's Day vs. Night Polaroid Series Captures Climate and Social Contrasts

Lenny Gerard, an artist from Los Angeles, has created a series called "Day vs. Night Juxtapositions," featuring over 120 Polaroid diptychs from 2022 to 2024. Each piece captures the same scenes—like desert landscapes, city buildings, and famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Walt Disney Concert Hall—split into sunlight and moonlight halves. The Polaroid format highlights themes of memory and fleeting moments, influenced by Gerard's teaching at the Braille Institute. Some pieces have been turned into 30×30-inch archival prints, with one displayed permanently at LACMA. This collection addresses topics like climate change and emotional contrasts. Gerard, a BFA graduate from Parsons, has exhibited at MCASD and Santa Monica Art Museum and has a solo show in October, along with participation in the LACMA Art Parade in 2026.
