Leica Celebrates 50 Years of Gallery Network with Film Photography Revival

Leica is celebrating the half-century milestone of its gallery initiative, which commenced in 1976 with its inaugural exhibition in the foyer of the administrative building in Wetzlar, Germany. Under the leadership of Art Director Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, the brand’s worldwide network of complimentary galleries seeks to preserve film photography while engaging new audiences, particularly younger individuals attracted to the authenticity of analog. Notable photographers showcased include Nolis Anderson, Melissa Ann Pinney, and Craig Semetko. Anderson believes that using film enhances his skills, while Pinney appreciates the enchanting combination of light and chemistry. The anniversary exhibition, "Personal Perspectives. 50 Photographs for 50 Years of Leica Galleries," hosted by Leica Gallery Wetzlar, features works from renowned photographers like Werner Bischof and Elliott Erwitt. Additionally, Leica provides workshops and educational initiatives and has recently launched a new location in Chicago showcasing local talent.
