LEGO's Botanical Wave Spills 380,000 Flowers Across Tank Shanghai

Our LEGO Agency, the in-house creative arm of LEGO Group, has installed Botanical Wave at Tank Shanghai Art Center, a complex of decommissioned aviation fuel tanks at 2380 Longteng Avenue in Shanghai's Xuhui District. The outdoor work is composed of 380,000 hand-built LEGO flowers and plant pieces, arranged in colored streams that appear to pour from a former tank and cascade onto the plaza. Stretching nearly 100 feet and covering more than 8,600 square feet, the installation sets pink, red, yellow, and orange blooms against the site's gray industrial architecture, with white pieces standing in for sea foam. Inside, the Bloom Gallery presents 18 artworks by LEGO fans and artists who used LEGO botanical sets alongside textiles and metals. A further 18 LEGO Botanical arrangements are staged in everyday settings. Visitors can also participate in Where Blooms Begin, an interactive display where they build a LEGO flower, scan it, and add a digital version to a growing virtual wave. The exhibition runs October 1–29, 2026.
