Lego and Futura Collaborate for Ninjago's 15th Anniversary
In honor of the Ninjago franchise's 15th anniversary, Lego has teamed up with New York artist Futura, whose real name is Leonard Hilton McGurr, to unveil a new figurine called 'Ninja of the Futura' along with original artwork. The collaboration was revealed through images from Futura's New York studio, showcasing the figurine's development and reimagined versions of characters Kai and Nya. Futura, who rose from the graffiti scene in 1970s New York, is celebrated for his dynamic aerosol techniques and signature motifs like Pointman. Their partnership originated with Futura's visit to Lego's Billund headquarters, where he engaged with designers and delved into the company’s archives. The design aimed to merge Futura's artistic style with the Ninjago universe, with Pointman’s elongated shape inspiring the new character. Futura highlighted that the character embodies strength derived from wisdom and knowledge, symbolized by a backpack filled with tools. Additionally, the collaboration features original reinterpretations of Nya and Kai. A dedicated Lego collector, Futura expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to a narrative that can motivate youth. This new collaboration will launch on Friday, 18 September 2026, at the I Park Mall Yongsan in Seoul during the Lego Ninjago: Legends DuskFall Fan Event. The article was authored by Shawn Adams, an architect and lecturer, and published in Wallpaper*.
