Leers Weinzapfel Associates designs Cornell's new computing college

The Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, the first Cornell college named for a woman, opened in October 2024. Designed by Boston-based Leers Weinzapfel Associates, the 130,000-square-foot, L-shaped building houses computer science, information science, and statistics under one roof. A $100 million gift from alumna Ann S. Bowers in December 2020 enabled the project. The facade features punch windows with sculptural metal fins in four configurations, creating a wavelike effect, while limiting vertical fenestration to 30 percent to meet NYStretch Energy Code. Cross-laminated timber adds warmth inside. The building connects to Morphosis's 2014 Bill & Melinda Gates Hall via glazed pedestrian bridges. Olin Studio handled landscape architecture. LEED Gold certification is pending.
