Leeds Art Gallery's Summer of Sculpture Showcases Plaster, Sound, and Steel

Leeds Art Gallery launches its Summer of Sculpture programme, featuring three exhibitions running until 30 August. 'Arp: The Plasters' examines Jean (Hans) Arp's sculptural process alongside works by Barbara Hepworth, Alexander Calder, and Paule Vézelay. Garth Evans' 'The Anti-Virus Sculptures' presents small-scale plaster forms created during Covid-19 lockdown. Hannah Catherine Jones' 'UNEARTHING(S)' transforms the Central Court into an immersive sound installation exploring diasporic memory. Concurrently, the Henry Moore Institute presents 'Beyond the Visual', a multisensory exhibition with works by Henry Moore, Barry Flanagan, and David Johnson, and 'Some Steel: Sculpture and Steel in Britain, 1960–90' in partnership with Leeds Art Gallery. At Yorkshire Sculpture Park, William Kentridge's major exhibition 'The Pull of Gravity' spans drawing, animation, bronze, and outdoor installation. The interconnected ecology of Leeds Art Gallery, Henry Moore Institute, and Yorkshire Sculpture Park positions Leeds and Yorkshire as a significant centre for sculptural thought in the UK.
