Lee Krasner to Have First Paris Show at Gagosian in October

Lee Krasner will make her Paris debut in October 2025 with a solo exhibition at Gagosian's rue de Ponthieu gallery, timed ahead of Art Basel Paris. The show, focusing on her 1960s works, is a collaboration between Gagosian, New York's Olney Gleason gallery, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. It follows a major Metropolitan Museum of Art survey, 'Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous,' opening earlier that month. Gagosian senior director Kara Vander Weg initiated the project after discussions with Larry Gagosian, contacting Eric Gleason, who has worked with the Krasner estate since 2016. Krasner never had a show in France before. The 1960s were pivotal: she suffered an aneurysm in 1962, broke her arm in 1963, then emerged as a confident painter. In 1965, Whitechapel Gallery in London staged her first retrospective. Krasner died in 1984 at 75. The Paris show will draw from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation's holdings and private sources. Krasner's market is strong: her 1960 canvas 'The Eye Is the First Circle' sold for a record $11.7 million at Sotheby's in 2019, and all top 10 auction prices occurred in the past decade. Gleason noted private sale records have been repeatedly broken in the last 24 months. A 1949 untitled abstraction by Krasner is currently on view at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
