Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects completes Nueva School's Science and Environment Center in Hillsborough

Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects has designed the Science and Environment Center for Nueva School in Hillsborough, United States, representing the final phase of the school's Hillside Learning Complex originally completed in 2008. The 33-acre campus serves over 500 students from preschool through eighth grade and is situated in the semi-rural coastal hills of the San Francisco Peninsula with views of San Francisco Bay. School director Lee Fertig emphasized the importance of environmental citizenship in education, stating that empowering students to care for their local, regional, and global ecosystems is crucial given awareness of climate change. The center embodies Nueva School's mission to inspire lifelong learning, foster social sensitivity and environmental citizenship, and develop children's imagination. Founded in 1967, Nueva School is an independent institution whose campus features a thriving ecosystem of coastal oaks and scattered structures. Project management was handled by Jasen Bohlander, with Ian Ashcraft-Williams serving as project architect and Bill Leddy as principal. Photography for the project was provided by Richard Barnes and Bruce Damonte, while Hadir Al Koshta curated the architectural presentation. The project utilized products from numerous suppliers including Otis, American Standard, Sherwin-Williams, Armstrong, and Forbo among others.
