Le Signore dell’arte: 131 works by 42 female artists at Palazzo Cucchiari

The exhibition 'Le Signore dell’arte' opened at Palazzo Cucchiari in Carrara on June 27, running until October 25. It presents 131 paintings and sculptures by 42 female artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Works are loaned from the Presidency of the Republic, Bank of Italy, Uffizi, National Gallery of Rome, Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia di Milano, and other public and private collections. Curated by Massimo Bertozzi, the show emphasizes 'parity of talent' between genders, focusing on family ties, training, and recognition of women artists amid societal change. Featured male artists include Giacomo Balla, Felice Casorati, Mario Mafai, and Achille Funi. A rarely seen work is the silhouette portrait of Amanzia Guerillot by Angelo Inganni, from the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia, unseen since WWII. The exhibition traces pioneers from the Risorgimento (Ernesta Bisi Legnami) through 20th-century figures like Edita Broglio, Genni Mucchi, Antonietta Raphael, Leonor Fini, Luce and Elica Balla, Leonetta Cecchi Pieraccini, and Adriana Pincherle. Pincherle debuted in 1931 at the 'Prima mostra romana d’arte femminile' and moved to Paris in 1933. From the Quirinale comes Balla's 'Affetti'; from the Chamber of Deputies, a bronze by Jenny Mucchi portraying Gino Severini. The Royal Museums of Turin lent works by Cesarina Gualino and Tina Mennyey. Antonietta Raphael's 'Mario nello studio (Omaggio a Mafai)' (1966) is from the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
