Lawndale Announces 2026-2027 Artist Studio Program Participants

For its 20th anniversary, Lawndale, a nonprofit contemporary art center located in Houston, has announced the selection of Darla Barolini, Chayse Sampy, and Lillian Warren for the 2026-2027 Artist Studio Program. Out of more than 100 applicants, the jury, which comprised Jeremy Johnson, Lovie Olivia, Jabari Anderson, and Dr. Margo Handwerker, made the final choices. The program will run for nine to ten months, from September 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, and will transition to a process-based approach, with the monthly stipend rising from $750 to $900. Barolini's work focuses on human connection, Sampy delves into Black identity through Afrosurrealism, and Warren explores the concept of permanence in urban environments.
