Laura Silva's First Solo Show 'Territorio en reclamación' at Cabinet Gallery, Caracas

Venezuelan artist Laura Silva (born 1990, Guatire) presents her first solo exhibition, 'Territorio en reclamación,' at Cabinet Gallery in Caracas, running through July 2026. The show features works from 2022 to 2026, focusing on the human body as a contested symbolic territory. Silva's practice spans two distinct groups: plastic, hand-modeled clay pieces and rigid, fire-shaped clay tablets. Key installations include 'Comandos,' with twenty pairs of static feet on the floor critiquing unquestioned orders, and 'Mujer-oficio,' addressing gender and social contingencies of the female body. The 'Venus' series references the Mesopotamian mother goddess Aruru, the primordial potter who molded humans from clay. Later works incorporate industrial clay tablets, expanding notions of authorship. The exhibition is curated by Tahía Rivero.
