Laura Ortiz Vega Revives Urban Memory Through Yarn Paintings and Oaxaca Exhibition
Mexican artist Laura Ortiz Vega has created a unique artistic approach that intertwines yarn, pixels, beeswax, and spray paint. Drawing inspiration from Huichol yarn traditions and the dynamic street art of Mexico City, she seeks to honor cultural memories, particularly the graffiti and murals she observes in her environment. A graduate of Universidad Iberoamericana in industrial design, Vega reflects on the influence of Wixárika art in her work. This spring, she will exhibit at M5Contempo Gallery in Oaxaca City alongside Andrés Basurto Portillo. Vega also plans to relaunch her exhibition space in Colonia Roma in 2026 and aims to pursue international residencies.
