Laura Buruiana to Show Paintings and Perform Cello at Art Shopping Paris 2026
Romanian-born, France-based artist and concert cellist Laura Buruiana will exhibit her Banana Geisha series and perform on cello during the vernissage of Art Shopping Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre from 23 to 25 October 2026. The series fuses Japanese geisha imagery with Pop Art, notably Andy Warhol's banana motif, and includes Banana Geisha Hat – Ama Edition, which incorporates four genuine freshwater pearls and glossy epoxy resin. Buruiana, who has performed at the Berlin Philharmonie, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., describes her practice as 'Cellist by Day – Painter by Night' and explores 'Bipolar Resonance'—the balance of discipline and spontaneity. She experiments with brushed aluminium (Dibond) and epoxy resin, and her textured impasto and rhythmic scraping echo musical counterpoint. Living in Brittany since 2009, she cites Atlantic light and colour as influences. Her new project, Banana Geisha Dog in Paris, comprises a series of 40 × 80 cm paintings inspired by Japanese manga and Parisian visual poetry, to be collected in a limited-edition art album of 50 copies with text in French, English, Romanian and German. Buruiana's work is featured on Singulart, where Banana Geisha Hat – Ama Edition is highlighted as representative of her current practice.
