Latin American Architecture in Focus: Buenos Aires Biennial, MALBA Expansion, and Regional Projects
The 20th Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura de Buenos Aires marks its 40th anniversary with an impressive lineup of nearly 100 firms, 15 exhibitions, 50 conferences, and 40 international guests from over 55 cities, taking place from September 22 until late October. The theme of this year’s program is HABITAR, highlighted by a central exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. In Valparaíso, Chile, 'Oficios en Obra' will run from October 9 to 11, focusing on traditional building techniques. Meanwhile, Lima's Red Lima Milenaria aims for UNESCO recognition of precolonial sites. MALBA is set to undergo an underground expansion by Taller Frida Escobedo, expected to open in late 2029 or early 2030. Additionally, Bjarke Ingels Group is designing Macondo Park in Madrid, and the XXX Bienal Colombiana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo is scheduled for Cartagena in 2026, with Design Week Mexico occurring from October 5 to 11.
