LANZA Atelier's 2026 Serpentine Pavilion Reimagines the Wall as a Space of Encounter
LANZA Atelier, established by Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo in Mexico City, has been chosen to create the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens, London. Named 'a serpentine,' the design is inspired by the historic crinkle-crankle wall, a unique form found in English gardens for centuries. Constructed from brick without mortar, the pavilion can be disassembled for reuse. This project celebrates the 25th iteration of the Serpentine Pavilion and coincides with LANZA Atelier's tenth anniversary. The architects prioritize generosity over spectacle, employing flowing shapes to foster a communal atmosphere that merges indoor and outdoor spaces. The pavilion, which will feature locally sourced materials, aims to promote connection in a divided world and will be open for several months before moving to a permanent location.
