LaM unveils new collection hang mixing modern, contemporary and outsider art

In February 2026, the LaM in Villeneuve-d'Ascq reopened its doors following an 18-month renovation period. The first exhibition, showcasing Kandinsky, drew more than 100,000 visitors, a notable figure compared to the pre-closure annual attendance of 150,000. The €27.2 million renovation, financed by Lille metropolis, introduced a café, the bistronomic restaurant 'Pigments', new landscaping, and a pavilion designed by Dan Graham. Improvements included the installation of 98 new windows, roof restorations, and facade cleaning. As of June 12, the museum features a new collection display titled 'Obsession', which combines modern, contemporary, and outsider art, highlighting pieces like Modigliani's 'Portrait of a Medium' and works by Léger and Picasso. Additionally, the second section showcases outsider art, including a series by Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, and a new RAW space will present a solo exhibition by Jessy Razafimandimby.
