Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar's 'Body Quotidian' at Sharjah Art Foundation
The Sharjah Art Foundation presents "Body Quotidian," a duo exhibition featuring works by Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar, on view from June 13 to September 20, 2026, at Al Mureijah Square. Curated by Raja'a Khalid, the show brings together paintings, photographs, and sculptures that explore the unexpected physicality of everyday objects. Zafar's paintings, such as "Bent Moon" (2025) and "To see and not see" (2025), contemplate quotidian items as metaphors for death and decay, while Majid's works, including "Steam 07" (2026) and "Sunday" (2026), probe questions of desire and pleasure through photography and sculpture. The exhibition features a chiastic dialogue between works, with pieces like Majid's "dressing for pleasure 01" (2024) and its outdoor iteration "dressing for pleasure 03" (2026) subverting functional objects. Zafar's large-scale painting "Mourners" (2025) concludes the show with a confrontational exchange. The exhibition is commissioned by the Sharjah Art Foundation and documented by photographer Shavanas Jamaluddin. Razmig Bedirian, an art writer based in Dubai, reviewed the exhibition for ArtAsiaPacific.
