Laila Gohar's Edible Sculptures from Butter to Brioche Chairs
Laila Gohar, an innovative artist, reimagines food as playful sculptures, crafting butter representations of classical structures like ionic columns and pieces of Michelangelo's David, along with grand produce carousels. During Milan Design Week 2026, she partnered with ARKET to design a rotating carousel featuring seats made from cabbage, radish, and eggplant at Giardino delle Arti. For Sotheby's, she produced enormous cakes resembling apples and roses, and in 2022, at the Sotheby's Contemporary Art Exhibition in Paris, she unveiled vibrant red chairs disguised as frosted treats. Her trompe-l'œil creations include a lobster cake encircled by lettuce, meringue swans for her mother-of-pearl spoon sets, and towers of prawns for Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées. Gohar, who contributes to the Financial Times, employs food to challenge norms and evoke joy.
