La Carpa: Replicable Market Stall for Dignified Street Commerce in Durán
In Durán, Ecuador, the architectural collective Ancestra has designed La Carpa, a 16 m² replicable module to dignify street commerce in Latin American markets. The project responds to the precarious conditions of an itinerant market that has operated every Saturday for over 30 years without government support, exposing vendors to weather and insecurity. Led by architect Jhonatan Andrade and curated by Valentina Díaz, the structure was built by Woodxel with engineering by Momento Movimiento. The 2025 project aims to improve livelihoods, product quality, and access to affordable food for popular economies.
