La Cabina de la Curiosidad Rehabilitates Rural Storage House in Perucho, Ecuador

architecture-design · 2026-09-11

In 2022, La Cabina de la Curiosidad, an architecture studio, completed the rehabilitation of a 105 m² house situated in the Perucho countryside, approximately 35 km from Quito, Ecuador. Named Cholán Nests House and overseen by Valentina Díaz, the structure was initially a basic block-and-wall storage facility that had been gradually occupied and repaired out of necessity. This led to the need for a rehabilitation to improve the space. The project is classified under Houses and Adaptive Reuse, with lead architects Marie Combette and Daniel Moreno Flores, alongside team member David Rodríguez. Construction was executed by Luis Guamán, Daniel Cepeda, Paul Cepeda, Luis Araque, and Italo Vita, while plumbing and electrical work were managed by Geovanny Toaquiza and Luis Morales, respectively. Illustrations were created by Carlos Valverde, and JAG Studio and Marie Combette captured the photographs.
