La Bulla: Taller Multidisciplinar Transforms Neglected Veracruz Park into Community Hub

In Veracruz, Mexico, a once-neglected 15,000-square-metre recreational area has been transformed into La Bulla, a lively community hub designed by Taller Multidisciplinar. The project began in June 2020, led by architect Miriam Jurado, with the goal of reimagining a site overrun with trash and incomplete renovations. The intervention covers approximately 6,000 square metres and includes a reworked entrance, a replaced 7-a-side soccer field, a rehabilitated basketball court, a 400-square-metre children's area with playground and restrooms, and an open field for flag football. Grading challenges were resolved with stepped terraces, and a new flat entry from a closed street improves accessibility. The design features mobile storage modules for books and games, a universally accessible playground, durable furniture by mmcité, and fast-growing neem trees for shade. The bold color palette, developed with Bala Studio, reflects the community's music and dancing. The project has restored a sense of collective ownership and safety through improved lighting and constant use.
