L. McComber Rebuilds Fire-Razed 1970s Cottage as Wild Pond Villa in Quebec's Eastern Townships

Montreal-based architecture firm L. McComber has completed Wild Pond Villa, a 2,700-square-foot country retreat in Quebec's Eastern Townships, with a completion year of 2025. The project arose after a Montrealer's modest 1970s cottage was completely destroyed by fire. She commissioned a replacement that would embrace the peaceful landscape of the area while adopting a Mediterranean spirit. The central challenge was preserving the original building footprint to maintain existing rights within the shoreline protection zone. Laurent McComber served as lead architect, with Anne-Frédéric Blais and Maryse Allard as team leads. Modulor acted as general contractor. Structural engineering was provided by LLB Structure Conseil, while Homier handled lighting engineering and consulting. Braska Aménagement was responsible for landscape architecture. Manufacturers and brands whose products were used include CB2, Duchesne, EGC Ébénisterie architecturale, Homier, Luminaire Authentik, Maibec, and Shalwin. Ulysse Lemerise Bouchard photographed the project. The work is categorized as residential architecture and houses, and was curated by Susanna Moreira for ArchDaily.
