Kyiv Biennial Lands at KW Berlin with Over 40 Artists

The Kyiv Biennial, hosted by KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, presents 'A Bird That Cannot Land' from June 11 to September 13, 2026. The nomadic biennial, organized in collaboration with the Visual Culture Research Center in Kyiv, features over 40 Ukrainian and international artists including Geta Brătescu, Hito Steyerl, and Mona Hatoum. Hatoum's 20-year-old lantern 'Misbah' projects silhouettes of armed soldiers, while Dana Kavelina's film 'Grey Earth' follows a soldier and a cow through a desolate landscape. Hito Steyerl and Philipp Goll's installation examines the Nord Stream pipeline four years after its destruction, using generative AI. Aykan Safoğlu's puzzle '1991' references a whale that escaped a Soviet military facility. The exhibition spans all floors of KW, addressing conflict, memory, and displacement, with works that balance grief with moments of joy and absurdity.
