Kunstsilo Exhibition Explores Nordic Modernism's Diverse Paths

Kunstsilo in Norway, custodian of the Tangen Collection, is presenting three concurrent exhibitions focused on Nordic modernist artists. The shows highlight how Nordic artists both embraced and diverged from the international avant-garde, with many acting as emissaries carrying influences from Paris, Berlin, and Moscow while others developed a distinct Scandinavian consciousness shaped by extreme light and vast landscapes. Else-Brit Kroneberg, head of collections at Kunstsilo, noted that modernism was never a single movement but rather 'many modernisms' resulting from multiple approaches and trajectories. The Tangen Collection is one of the most significant collections of Nordic modernist art.
