KTGY Renovates Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park Interiors

US architecture studio KTGY has completed a renovation of the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park hotel, originally designed by HOK in the 1980s. The project, undertaken by KTGY's Interiors Studio, focused on refreshing the detailing and introducing more light into previously dark spaces, with a particular emphasis on premium rooms and lounges. In total, 83 rooms were renovated, along with meeting rooms and a second-level terrace. The design intent was to reflect the postmodern skyscraper's facade in the interior, bringing its architectural details down to a human scale. This included uncovering previously concealed architectural features, such as in the Rouge meeting room, where windows were revealed and a sunken floor was raised. The team integrated a modern visual palette while retaining some decadent detailing, including an abstract chandelier and a textural sideboard flanked by roped-LED sconces. On the 15th-floor lounge, finishes and flooring were completely redone, and a library area was added to create a more homey atmosphere. The second-floor terrace features patterned wood flooring and fluted wall details painted matte green. Guest rooms received lighter colours and bronze accents. The hotel, located near Millennium Park, is surrounded by other architectural landmarks, including Edward Durell Stone's AON Tower and Studio Gang's Aqua. Photography is by Mike Schwartz.
