Kristian V.K. Falden's hand-unraveled textiles transform AI imagery at Ukurant
At the Copenhagen exhibition Ukurant, emerging designer Kristian Vallum Kryger Falden showcases 'Unraveled in 49.5 Hours,' a textile installation featuring butterflies that come to life through a combination of print, illumination, and a relaxed structure. This piece is part of his ongoing 'Unraveled in Time' series, which debuted during 3daysofdesign. Utilizing generative AI, his own butterfly photography, and influences from the Renaissance, Falden's final creations are crafted from woven fabric, advanced sublimation printing, draping, and over 244 hours of meticulous hand-unraveling. The inspiration stemmed from a visit to Jim Lyngvild's exhibition, where AI met Hieronymus Bosch's imaginative realm. Following the loss of his father in 2022 and the experience of Carlos Amorales' 'Black Cloud,' butterflies became significant to Falden, who, despite being colorblind, relied on his personal color perception for this series. The installation was displayed at Ukurant (Sundholmsvej 46, 2300 Copenhagen) from June 10–12, 2026.
