Konstantinos Gournas Transforms Reclaimed Marble Sink into Mobile Wash Station

Konstantinos Gournas, a designer from Greece, has introduced WS | Wash Station, a portable installation centered around a salvaged marble sink. Situated in Greece, this project reinterprets the traditional household fixture by extracting it from its original context while maintaining its historical wear, patina, and signs of use. A new mobile frame crafted from stainless steel allows the substantial marble piece to be easily relocated between different spaces. Gournas employs reuse as a fundamental design principle, ensuring the object's age remains visible while integrating modern functionality. The juxtaposition of the marble's natural imperfections with the sleekness of stainless steel merges distinct material histories. This economical intervention subtly alters the object's purpose without obscuring its past, challenging the notion of permanence in domestic spaces.
