Kolkata office transformed into giant sewing kit for Doreme headquarters

architecture-design · 2026-06-12

Pooja Bihani from Spaces and Design has reimagined a 3,600 sq ft former warehouse in Kolkata as the headquarters for Doreme, an Indian brand specializing in children's apparel. The interior resembles a massive sewing kit, showcasing large buttons, cross-stitch motifs, and vibrant lacing. The design features flowing, curved shapes, with amoebic workstations, oval meeting spaces, and a nearly twenty-foot-long central showroom table. Movement through the area is facilitated by minimal doors and limited visual obstructions, with curtain panels crafted from Doreme's textiles substituting for solid walls. A striking lime-green canopy ceiling radiates from a central stretch ceiling, enhanced by custom oval lighting tracks for precise color rendering in the fabric workshop. The color scheme blends white walls and soft grey surfaces with bright neon accents in greens, pinks, oranges, and yellows. Design elements reflect garment-making tools, including glass table bases filled with buttons, zips, and yarns; storage units with cross-stitch patterns; oversized button handles; desk dividers adorned with neon string; and woven textile art serving as functional partitions. This workspace is designed to inspire creativity by integrating the language of crafting into its every aspect.
