Kola Bay Lighthouse Viewpoint by Evgeny Makarenko's Timber Architecture Workshop

A new observation deck, the Kola Bay Lighthouse Viewpoint, has been completed on a hillside overlooking the Kola Bay in Murmansk, Russia. Commissioned by the Murmansk Regional Government as part of the 'Living in the North' program, the 23-square-meter structure serves as a modern recreational space integrated into the natural landscape. Designed by Evgeny Makarenko's Timber Architecture Workshop, the project pays homage to the region's industrial heritage, echoing the forms of port cranes and lighthouses. The design team includes Alexey Ushakov and Sergey Serov, with technical support from Oleg Lelyuk and Pavel Zhadinsky. Photographs by Alexey Arushanyan, Alexey Malenchik, and Tatiana Okuneva document the project, which was curated by Hana Abdel. Completed in 2025, the viewpoint is located just a five-minute walk from a residential area.
