Koestler Awards Exhibition in London Curated by Young People Affected by Parental Incarceration

The Koestler Awards exhibition, an annual showcase of art created in secure institutions, is currently on view in London. This year's edition features works selected by a curatorial team of 18- to 35-year-olds who have personal experience of having a parent in prison. The exhibition is part of the Koestler Awards, a longstanding program that recognizes artistic achievement within the criminal justice system. By entrusting the curation to young people directly impacted by parental incarceration, the exhibition offers a perspective that bridges the worlds of incarcerated artists and their families. The selected works span various mediums, though specific details about the artworks and artists are not provided. The exhibition highlights the role of art as a means of expression and rehabilitation for those in secure settings, while also giving a platform to curators whose lives have been shaped by the prison system. The event is presented by the Koestler Trust, an organization dedicated to supporting art in the criminal justice system. The exhibition is free and open to the public, running at the Southbank Centre in London. This year's edition continues the Koestler Awards' tradition of bringing art from prisons, secure hospitals, and immigration removal centres to a wider audience, challenging public perceptions and fostering dialogue about incarceration and its impact on families.
