Knicks' Larry O'Brien Trophy to Be Displayed at AMNH

Beginning Monday and running until January 3, the Larry O'Brien Trophy, awarded to the New York Knicks after a 53-year wait for a championship, will be showcased at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). This trophy is featured in the "For the Win" exhibition, which highlights significant achievements involving precious metals and gems, alongside the Vince Lombardi Trophy and Jesse Owens's gold medal from the 1936 Olympics. AMNH President Sean M. Decatur remarked that the trophy's display aligns with a pivotal time for New York City, following the Knicks' victory over the San Antonio Spurs on June 13 and the subsequent ticker-tape parade on June 18, which drew around 2 million attendees. The trophy, weighing 30 pounds and crafted from sterling silver and gold vermeil, features a life-sized basketball going through a hoop, with the names of winning teams inscribed since 1947. The NBA was approached by the exhibition's curators two years prior regarding the trophy, but its recent triumph adds new local importance.
