King Charles III portrait by Jonathan Yeo to debut at Buckingham Palace

Starting July 10, Buckingham Palace will open its doors to the official state portrait of King Charles III, crafted by Jonathan Yeo, a British artist. This nearly 9-foot-tall piece was revealed in May 2024 and has sparked conversations worldwide due to its striking crimson colors. In the painting, the King is depicted in the Welsh Guards' scarlet uniform, set against a vivid red background that almost gives it an abstract look, complete with a butterfly above. It will be displayed in the Picture Gallery as part of an overhaul of the Royal Collection, alongside works by renowned artists like Thomas Gainsborough and John Singer Sargent, connecting Yeo’s contemporary art to a rich history of royal portraits.
