Kevin Puts Revises Pulitzer-Winning Opera 'Silent Night' for Met

Kevin Puts, the composer behind the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera 'Silent Night,' has made significant revisions to the work in anticipation of a new production at the Metropolitan Opera this season. Originally premiered in 2011, the opera, which depicts a Christmas truce during World War I, will be showcased to its largest audience yet through Live in HD cinema broadcasts. After gaining deeper insights into vocal techniques and text setting, Puts modified nearly all elements, including orchestration and choral arrangements. Earlier this year, the revised version was successfully staged by Houston Grand Opera. Puts, who resides in Yonkers, New York, with his wife, a violinist for the New York Philharmonic, and their 16-year-old son, is also preparing a bassoon concerto for Judith LeClair, set to debut with the New York Philharmonic in November.
