KAWS Unveils 30-Meter Robotic COMPANION on Hangzhou's West Lake for Mid-Autumn Festival

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the HOLIDAY world tour, organized by KAWS and AllRightsReserved, made its way to Hangzhou. A striking 30-meter-long reclining COMPANION, envisioned as a futuristic robot and adorned in osmanthus yellow, was displayed on the lawns of "Orioles Singing in the Willows" at West Lake from September 24 to 27, 2026, with no entry fee. This installation, created in partnership with local entity WESTLAKE 66, reclines skyward, reflecting the moon-gazing custom of the festival. The robotic theme highlights Hangzhou’s reputation as a tech center, while the yellow color pays homage to the city’s official flower and the harvest moon’s glow. This event is part of the ongoing KAWS:HOLIDAY tour, which has showcased monumental COMPANIONs globally since 2018, including locations like Seoul, Tokyo, and Singapore. The figure features iconic X eyes, a vented chest, and movable joints, set against traditional pavilions and willows. Aerial shots capture the figure reaching towards the serene lake, framed by the Hangzhou skyline. Coverage of the event was provided by Hypebeast, Marketing-Interactive, and @kaws on Instagram.
